BAGGETT SWEEPS HANGTOWN
The 2012 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship Series commenced this past weekend at the Hangtown Motocross Classic in Sacramento, California. The VP-fueled Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team experienced both the high of a dominating win and the low of losing a reigning champion and title contender to injury at the much anticipated season opener, proving that nothing can be expected in the grueling sport of motocross.
Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Blake Baggett completely dominated the field and swept both 250 motos, giving him the first 250 overall win of the season on VP's MR-PRO 6! He leaves Hangtown with an eight-point lead in the 250 class point standings.
“The track was pretty rough,” said Baggett. “This track is always pretty gnarly so we knew what to expect coming here. I definitely think last year the track was much more rutted, this year there weren’t nearly as many ruts. Everything went really good once the racing began. I got an okay start in the first moto and faded back to eighth. I was able to get back towards the front and with two laps to go it was on. I was able to get both (Ken) Roczen and (Justin) Barcia on the last lap to take the win. It was a super intense race and by far one of the gnarliest battles I’ve had. You really have to watch it on television to even understand it. I have always liked the track here at Hangtown; you can get into a good flow in these hills if you find the right lines.”
Baggett now makes his way to round two of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, which will be held at the Freestone National in Wortham, Texas this Saturday, May 26. Baggett is first overall, respectively, in the 250 class.
