RESPONSE TO GASOLINE SHORTAGES COMES FROM UNEXPECTED SOURCE
Delaware-Based VP Racing Fuels Ships 5-Gallon Pails of Fuel for Storm Recovery
In normal times, most operators of outdoor power equipment look to the corner gas station for the fuel they need for their chain saws, generators and other tools. In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, many gas stations are inaccessible or their dispensers inoperable due to power outages, leaving first responders and others involved in recovery efforts scrambling for fuel. Enter VP Racing Fuels, Inc., with a solution seemingly made to order for such situations. Having survived the storm with minimal damage, VP’s regional distribution center in Newark, Delaware has had all hands on deck shipping 5-gallon pails of its VP Small Engine Fuel throughout the storm-battered region.
“In the aftermath of the storm, there are thousands of generators providing back-up power and chain saws used in removing debris, along with other gas-powered tools,” said Jim Kelly, VP’s Eastern Regional Manager. “Ethanol-free VP Small Engine Fuel was originally introduced primarily to combat the negative effect that ethanol in street gas has on fuel systems in outdoor power equipment. The fact that it’s packaged in quarts and pails has the side benefit of making it easy to transport in emergency situations like this and easy for crews to carry into the field to ensure their gas-powered work can continue uninterrupted.”
“We’ve shipped significant amounts of VP Small Engine Fuel to our usual supply lines, as well as to fire & rescue units, municipalities and others involved in recovery efforts,” Kelly continued. “But we still have a large inventory of VP-SEF in place to serve anyone in the region who may be in need. We encourage anyone who is having difficulty finding fuel to let us know, and if UPS or trucking companies can access your area we can get it there.”
