D-SPORT'S '11 SUBARU STI TEST & TUNE REVEALS A 23HP GAIN W/ MS109!
D-SPORT started their 2011 Subaru Impreza STI project car with some simple bolt-ons including an intake system, high-flow downpipe, exhaust system and saw an impressive gain of 31 horsepower. Of course, power addicts like the great editors at D-SPORT wouldn't stop at just that...In their latest and greatest segment, they explored solutions allowing them to safely increase power output with the STI project while eliminating the chances of detonation from occurring.
Because their Test & Tune STI was slated for weekend track duty, D-SPORT decided to further ensure the setup against detonation by providing a race-gas tune for such excursions. VP Racing Fuels’ MS109 was their obvious choice being oxygenated, unleaded and having an R+M/2 octane rating of 105. This potent unleaded fuel provided increased protection in the STI from detonation with the engine pushing considerable boost (up to 25psi) . The oxygenation additive in MS109 provided better combustion, but D-SPORT cautioned that it may not be approved by all sanctioning bodies for competition (check your specific organization’s class rules for confirmation).
All in all, the high octane MS109 offered the greatest increase in power production of all parts tested in their third segment, but proved to maintain safe air/fuel ratios. D-SPORT witnessed peak power increasing by 23.3 whp while torque in the STI rose by 20.3 lb-ft!
