DAYTONA BEACH, FL (JULY 11, 2010) AMA’s best of the best came to I-96 Speedway on Saturday to duke it out on the well-known half mile. Joe Kopp was tested at the beginning of the weekend, but overcame two restarts and took his #3 Harley to victory in round eight of the K&N Filters Grand National Championship.

Jake Johnson on his #5 bike took the hole shot on the first start, but could not duplicate it the second time around. "I knew I had to get out front and not make any mistakes," said Kopp. "I was the veteran, I should be able to keep the 'kids' behind me."

Kopp took command and pulled away from Johnson as his attention turned to a fight for 2nd with Kenny Coolbeth as the second red flag came out.

A single file restart saw Johnson looking to make an inside pass on the first turn, but his fate was sealed as Kopp maintained his walls. Coolbeth continued to put pressure on a 2nd place Johnson, but no better luck. Late in the game Sammy Halbert, Jared Mees and Chris Carr attempted to make it a six-way race, but after lap 22 the top positions were set.

Kopp, with a commanding lead, took the checkered. This win gives him a 13-point advantage over Johnson with Henry Wiles and Sammy Halbert just a few points behind. VP Racing Fuels is an official sponsor of AMA Pro Racing.
