VP AND REED DEFINE “A WINNING PAIR” IN AUSTRALIA
AUSTRALIA (OCTOBER 16, 2010) Chad Reed dominated the first round of the Monster Energy Super X Championship in Newcastle with a performance in front of 12,500+ at the Energy Australia Stadium. Reed used VP Racing’s blend of Roo100 designed specifically for the Australasian Supercross Championship.
US riders Josh Hansen and Justin Brayton, also using Roo100, claimed the remainder of podium spots coming in second and third respectively.
The race was setup in a double-header fashion with two heats of 12 laps each. Dan Reardon grabbed the holeshot on his Honda with Josh Hansen following closely in second and Reed on both of their tails.
The race was neck and neck between the top 3 at the beginning, but a small error by Hansen granted Reed the chance to pass him. Reed then stalked Reardon and shot a gap left open somewhere near the mid-point of the race. Hansen overtook Reardon and began to chase Reed, but the reigning champion was too fast and held on for the win.
Local rider Craig Anderson claimed the second holeshot in moto 2, but it was Reed who got out to an early lead with Brayton in second and Reardon in third. Hansen passed Reardon on the third lap and the three riders held their position until the end with Reed throwing a huge whip to his home crowd fans once over the finish line.
“First and foremost I want to thank all of the Newcastle fans for coming tonight," Reed said. "It has been a long term plan to have a race here and after three years it has finally happened. I felt right at home racing out there tonight and it feels great to get the win. 2010 has been a tough year for me, but I had a blast riding tonight," Reed concluded.
