ANAHEIM, CA (JANUARY 8, 2011) The 2011 FIM Supercross season kicked off on Saturday with a jam-packed, sold out California crowd. The highly anticipated main event saw Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto as victor of the 450 class. Villopoto began using VP Racing Fuel’s MR-Pro5 blend last year and continues to see great power with it rolling into the first big race of 2011.

At the beginning of the main Ivan Tedesco grabbed the holeshot leaving Villopoto and Mike Alessi nipping at his heels. Villopoto quickly sailed past Alessi and took charge within the first lap of the race. From then on, it was a battle royale between Villopoto and anyone who challenged his lead. The result…the talented rider was successful in obtaining his 10 th 450 SX career win.

“This is a nice way to start out the season…starting out this way makes things much easier. I hope I can start putting together some more wins and a championship this year,” said winner Villapoto.

Defending champion, Ryan Dungey, finished second overall aboard his Suzuki with a gradual progression to the podium. James Stewart started the race in the middle of the pack and patiently worked his way to the podium on Lap 12. Stewart was running VP’s MR-Pro5 as well.

“I almost went down a few times,” said Stewart. “Next week, I’ll work on my starts and be prepared for Phoenix. I tried my best to get up there. Once I got into third, I tried to make up some time on Ryan (Dungey) but ran out of laps.”
