LAUGHLIN, NV (JANUARY 18, 2011) Bryce Menzies took on the Laughlin Desert this past weekend with wings! His new #70 Trophy Truck was sporting a Red Bull paint job to represent the team’s recently added sponsor. His tank full of VP’s Late Model Plus helped propel him against 30mph winds through the 17 th Annual Laughlin Desert Challenge.

Friday’s events came early as the prerunning started and led straight into qualifying. Menzies was going up against all the big names in SCORE so his work would be cut out for him.

As Saturday’s races began, Menzies staged third off the line alongside Mexico’s Tavo Vildolsola. The green flag dropped and the battle was on as Menzies fought to get out in front of Vildolsola before the first hill was reached. Menzies was successful in doing so and achieved a substantial lead on the 6.2-mile course.

With Robby Gordon broke down and BJ Baldwin slowed by a flat, Menzies lead the last half of the race. Jesse Jones made some time on Menzies but to no avail.

Sunday morning came hard and fast as teams scrambled to make some last minute tuning changes. The trucks gathered at the start for the final day of racing. As the green flag fell, Menzies and Jones both pushed hard to get out in front, but it was Menzies that pulled into the lead as they started the 8-lap race.

Jones put up a fight staying with Bryce almost the entire race, but Menzies maintained his lead for the rest of the race and came through the checkered flag with almost a minute lead over the second place Jesse Jones!

“This is only our fifth race in this truck and to start the year off with a win is a great confidence booster going into this season.” Said Trophy Truck Crew Chief and Co-Driver Peter Mortensen.
